Core Operations

MIDROC Gold Mine’s daily activities center on three core operations. Open pit mining extracts gold from near-surface deposits using large-scale earthmoving equipment. Underground mining accesses deeper ore bodies through the Legadembi and Sakaro mines. Exploration continuously identifies new resources to replace and expand reserves.

Growth & Development

MIDROC Gold Mine began operations in 1998, marking the start of large-scale industrial gold production in Ethiopia. The company optimized its open pit, processing plant, and supporting facilities to improve efficiency. It then developed the Legadembi and Sakaro underground mines, expanding production capacity. Exploration activities have since extended around Shakiso and into western Ethiopia, including Metekel in the Benishangul Gumuz Regional State.

Exploration Program

MIDROC Gold Mine runs a robust exploration program focused on multiple fronts. Targets include areas within the existing mine permit and zones within trucking distance of current operations. The program also reaches other promising regions across Ethiopia. These initiatives reflect our commitment to discovering new resources, diversifying our portfolio, and strengthening the long-term sustainability of our mining business.
