Metekel, MIDROC Gold Mine Project

Transforming Potential into Scale

The Metekel Gold Mine Project represents a landmark expansion for MIDROC Gold Mine PLC. Moving systematically from rigorous exploration to heavy capital deployment, this project establishes our second major industrial mining hub in Ethiopia, designed to match the operational footprint of our flagship Legadembi asset.

Located in the Metekel Zone of the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State, the project transitions the region away from traditional practices toward modern, sustainable, and highly efficient asset extraction.

Project Highlights & Industrial Progress

Modern Processing Infrastructure

Backed by a projected capital investment of over 26 billion ETB (approx. USD 200 million), the site is undergoing comprehensive geotechnical preparation for a state-of-the-art gold processing plant. The facility will integrate advanced crushing, milling, gravity separation, and Carbon-in-Pulp (CIP) technology to maximize recovery rates while maintaining rigorous environmental safeguards.

Integrated Logistics & Access

Current field operations are focused on structural civil works, including the development of heavy-duty, all-weather haul and access road networks. This critical infrastructure connects the remote concession area to main logistics corridors, ensuring the secure and efficient transit of heavy machinery and industrial components.

Shared Value & Regional Impact

We believe that industrial development must advance hand-in-hand with the Social License to Operate (SLO). The Metekel Project is structurally aligned with regional socio-economic development goals:

Stakeholder Collaboration: Operating in close alignment with local woreda administrations and regional security frameworks to guarantee a safe, stable, and sustainable operating environment.

Employment Creation: Generating over 1,500 direct technical and operational jobs for local communities during the construction and production phases.

Formalizing Resources: Providing a robust corporate alternative to informal and illicit mining activities, ensuring formal wealth generation, royalties, and transparent tax revenues for regional and federal governments.
